League Description

GORC Volleyball focuses first on basic skills including bumping, passing, and underhand serving. Once players successfully demonstrate basic skills, we then move on to more advanced skills including setting, hitting, tipping, blocking, and overhand serving. Typically, only the older kids (ages 13-14) will begin to learn rotations/positions. The ultimate goal is to be ready for High School level play when entering 9th grade.

There are three (3) age-based groups including 14U, 12U, and 10U. The player's age as of Sept. 1 of the current year determines the age-group he or she is permitted to play. Requests for playing up to an older age group are considered on a case-by-case basis. In no case is a child permitted to play down to a younger age group.

Team Assignments

Teams are typically 10 to 12 players each, but only 6 are required to play. Team assignments are made in a variety of ways. In general, we attempt to keep teams together over time and with their prior coach when possible. This is to ensure consistency in training and playing. We do NOT make placements based on skill level. If a child has NOT played before, he or she is generally assigned to the team most in need. Of course we do our best to meet all special requests as made. But we cannot guarantee that all requests can be accomplished.

Fall 2011 Season Details

Dues are $75.  The fall season begins the first week of the school year and continues through the end of October. GORC Volleyball participates in the Anne Arundel County sponsored Volleyball league during the fall season. We offer competitive play against multiple teams outside of GORC. The games are officially refereed.

Practice Schedules

Practices begin the first week of school and are one hour each, two nights per week, per team, Monday thru Friday. Practice schedules are strictly based on gym and coach availability. All practices are held at Arundel High School. Practice schedules are made available as soon as possible.

Registration/Receipt Notes: Players will be contacted by the coach or commissioner in mid August with team information and practice dates and times.
